Ultra-violence and disturbing laboratory practices are juxtaposed with common consumer goods and the minutiae of everyday life. The protagonist is a robot with so human an appearance and demeanor, that he doesn't even know he's a robot. The overdone violence is so painstakingly rendered by Darrow that his talent overcomes any offensiveness. An odd mix of violence fixation and abhorrence.
