SF Eye

Science Fiction Eye

(two views)

A thick, slick zine for the SF underground. Critical essays, reviews, and regular columns by the likes of Bruce Sterling, Paul di Filippo, and Richard Kadrey. A frequent criticism of this mag is that it is so fat and thoughtful that plowing through it can be tough. Oh darn, too much quantity and quality for my money. That's a problem I can live with (and, you should too!). Subscribe quickly, before they wise up and start charging real money for this thing.

Once known as the "Official Organ of the Cyberpunk Movement," SF Eye is constantly expanding its focus as one of the best magazines of contemporary SF criticism. Plenty of founding cyberpunks still hang out around here: Sterling, Di Filippo, Lewis Shiner, Rudy Rucker, John Shirley, Marc Laidlaw and other former members of the "collective" spill their delicious ink here.

SF Eye also explores many issues that orbit cyberpunk. Issue no. 5 has an article entitled "Taking Hallucinations Seriously: Battlefield Report from the Western Front in the War on Drugs," by former Tarcher Books editor Dan Joy. It's a first hand account of the activities of the psychedelic pioneers of the sixties, still going strong in the nineties: Tim Leary, John Lilly, Terrence McKenna, Peter Stafford, etc.

Sporting slick full-color covers, SF Eye is beautiful to behold. At $3 per 100 page copy, it's also a bargain. For anyone serious about participating in the design of the techgnostic future, a subscription to SF Eye is mandatory.

Here is the TEXT POPUP for SF Eye...

A friend of mine has a copy of a tape made at Jonestown, Where Jim Jones' people were drinking the poison-laced Kool-Aid. On it you hear children screaming in pain. Their parents gave them poisoned Kool-Aid, because Jones told them to, and the children are screaming in agony as they die. And then you hear an officious, reproachful voice in the background saying, "Parents - please keep your children quiet!"

This article is the contrary admonition. Parents, don't keep your children quiet.
