Renaissance Trailer in English

Rennassance Trailer

I really can’t wait to see this flick. The cast includes:

  • Daniel Craig
  • Catherine McCormack
  • Romola Garai
  • Jonathan Pryce
  • Ian Holm
  • Kevork Malikyan

The trailers look terrific, as do the stills. Here’s the Renaissance Trailer in English.

While Renaissance’s release date in the US is September 22, it appears that the UK will be getting their hands on this on July 6th. Perhaps one the regulars here from the UK can give us a review then.

The visuals of this movie are truly stunning. This is what Sin City should have looked like, for this movie really looks just like a moving comic strip. Great effects, cool camera movement and great shadow play (sorry, I do not know the appropriate English term for this :D ) that all add to the fascinating atmosphere of the clean Paris of the future, that has become a Big Brother state.

If you like this kind of look you just have to go and see this movie, and if it’s only for the visuals. Although I have to say I didn’t even recognise one single actor anymore
Unfortunately this look creates a big distance between the protagonists and the audience and erases almost all emotions in the viewer as well as in the characters.

The story on the other hand was unspectacular even though there were some interesting story twists towards the end (I’m not going to spoil anything, don’t worry). But honestly, I don’t know if I would call it “cyberpunk”. It’s much too clean and there are hardly any cp-elements involved, besides the total control and an almighty company with far too much power.

Phew. Enough said. Now I’m looking forward to seeing “A scanner darkly” tomorrow :D

Hi Muad’Dib, thanks for the review. I guess I’ll have to wait to see whether I consider it cyberpunk or not, but its nice to hear that at least visually the movie holds up as well as it appears in the trailers. Although, I wish I was hearing how good the story was as well, but perhaps this is not the case here.
