But why? For what purposes?  Yeah Netrunner I know that’s typically a weird beginning for an active Wirehead like you. But some times you need to question yourself before pressing Enter! Because from your answers you will have a much better vision and focus to start and keep moving!

I will compose this tutorial in different chapters named ”How to start a blog – Chap x – subject”.

You just entered to the first chapter so let’s go!

First consider to decide upon a concept.

What you’d like to blog about?  What are your motivations? Is it  for yourself and Family? Do you want to make money? Do you want to share your experiences in a particular topic?

Because the approach will be different regarding your concept.

Concept huh? So an abstract word to me..Gimme some examples!

Business blogs

Usually it is a legal entity (Can be one person) who uses their blog design to bring a less formal, more human touch to their brand.

Personal blogs

They are more diverse, but you can assimilate them as a personal diary or to share with friends your next vacation around the world!

Hobby blogs

Discuss your favorite hobby or passion.

Experience-based blogs

You have experience in something and you want to share it ? Parenting and Family experience, weight loss blogs, Travel blogs provide you with an tons of subjects to discuss.

And the list goes on …

These  concepts can be mixed together. It is not restrictive.

All right? Got it? So spend some times to think about. If you surf the web I’m sure you already have some favorites on your toolbar and some of them are surely blogs.It’s a good point to have some ideas.

What about Active Wirehead ?

First I wanted to learn how to build a platform and share my experience. And after I had more ideas. I would like to review products I own to help people like me to have an idea about the product they might want to buy. I would like to talk about subject I know (Video games, Sport, IT),  stuff I like (Movie, music..) So many things 🙂 Yup that’s true. And how can I achieve that?

By creating a web magazine with multi-author blogs with posts written by large numbers of authors. That’s my concept for ActiveWireHead.com

Next, think about your Audience/Reader

Let’s be straight to the point:  Consider your audience/reader – Subjects matter!

Think about your reader. Who’s going to read your blog?

You won’t write the same posts if you want to share this blog with your family only or if you want to speak with people who share the same hobby like you.

And if you decide to speak about different subjects, will your audience appreciate articles on both Heavy Metal music and your daughter classical dance courses ?

Target Audience is a key concept in marketing. I won’t develop it here.

In cases where you have two very different topics with two very different audiences, it’s generally best to create two separate blogs.

What about Active Wirehead ?

As a Web-magazine I want to focus on a geeky cyberpunk based magazine. New IT gadgets, book, movies, games tutorials.. I created some archetypes which define the different categories.

Finally write a short Blog Content Plan

A what? Blog Content Plan? Please avoid your marketing corporate speech!

All right all right. keep it simple:   Make a list with lots of articles ideas ! It will help you to start and find the good rhythm to post. After some articles you will have new ideas so don’t worry.

It’s really a good start to see if you have enough ideas to fill your blog. So start with at least 50 ideas. I didn’t say WRITE 50 articles Ok? 🙂

So if you decided to post your favorite recipes be sure you have more than a dozen to write about….

Ok that’s it for now. You have a personal work to do Runner, so open a File and write everything you are thinking of..

Next post I will talk about Blog Name, Domain name, web hosting  platform. It gonna be serious and you might write you first ”Hello World” or ”All your base are belong to us” depending of you geek knowledge 🙂
