Characteristics of Kali

Kali is a martial arts style that focuses on the ability to transition from fighting with weapons to empty hands fluidly, as there is always the possibility of losing or being without a weapon.

Kali is close quarters combat, and we mean, very close quarters.

FMA is distinct from other martial arts in that a weapon (training stick) is placed in a student’s hands from day one. Most martial arts withhold weapons training until the higher ranks are reached. With FMA, empty hand techniques are taught when proficiency with the stick/sword and knife has been mastered. FMA is particularly well-liked among fight enthusiasts because it allows flexibility with using either long or short blades, blunt weapons, empty hands, or even improvised weapons.

Basic Goals of Kali

Kali is primarily a weapons-based style of fighting. Thus, it involves inflicting bad, often fatal damage to opponents with the use of weapons and/or empty hand techniques as quickly as possible.

It is the new favourite martial arts among special forces and law enforcement agencies. Just this year alone, US Army Special Forces have dabbled in it; India’s newly formed National Security Guard commandos and Black Cat security units have adopted it.

The fictional hero who used Kali consistently was Jason Bourne. Matt Damon underwent months of kali training for the role.
