Screencap

Overview: This is one of those shows that TOTALLY addicted me to it when it came out. This was the first 3D animation I ever saw, and I must say, I completely fell in love with it. Reboot is a wonderfully intelligent kids show, that for techies, seemed to have all the inside-tech jokes just right. All the characters are inside a computer world - the mainframe, and the good guys are trying to stop the evil virus, Megabyte from infecting the rest of the mainframe.

Screencap

The Bottom Line: Reboot provided us a terrific fantasy view inside a virtual computer. While the first two seasons were fun, season 3 was just terrific! After ABC dropped this Canadian production, they were able to go adult-like, with much darker themes and a really cool sword and sorcery bent. The follow-on movies captured the fun of the first two seasons while keeping the darkness of the third. And while the CG has definitely been surpassed, for some reason, the look still works.

I remember watching this as a kid, probably in 1996. It was an awesome TV show. I remember there being this announcement that would say, “WARNING: INCOMING GAME” and then this massive purple cube of electricity would descend and our little computer people (yes, I lack ‘the talk’ :P) would have to play against real players in the real world; I loved that bit.

SFAM said:

I agree - the playing against real players in the real world was pretty cool. Although, I loved season 3 more, where they grew up and got stuck in the fantasy world.

Man, I hope Reboot comes out on DVD soon, if it’s not already out. It was the best cartoon at the time… actually EVER!… and I miss seeing it on ABC then Cartoon Network. Knowing that it was the first completly computer-generated animation makes me want to see it all again.

I have to have the Reboot collection!

Hi! let me tell you I’m a fan since the begining, and watched the other series like War Planets and Beast machines. All the programs were amazing and still are.

It’s really hard to find the DVDs. I heard something about distributor’s problems, but I really don’t know.

I recently bought the fourth season (two 90 minutes movies) and the animations are better than ever. I really enjoyed them.

Of course the Third season was superb. It´s my favorite.

Yeah, it’s true that series 1&2 aren’t available for purchase, and S3 is very hard to find, but there is certainly hope to keep the series alive.

Just to let you guys know, there is actually a revival of ReBoot going on right now. The voice actors and creators of the show have been contacted and are interested in making a fifth season to finish off where the season 4 cliffhanger stopped. All they need is a station that will fund the show and they’re back in business.

Go to www.rebootrevival.com and join the revival. You’ll learn more information there.

Plus, go to The Java Hut at http://rbcorner.com/cgi-bin/eblah/Blah.pl? It’s a ReBoot forum linked with the revival.

Help us bring back ReBoot. We need all the support we can get.

By the way, I forgot to mention that my name is Jester on the Java Hut forum. If you have any questions just message me on the site.

See you there, hopefully.

Hi Jester, thanks for the link. I’ll definitely check it out, and certainly hope they go ahead and make another season.

Well it’s Jester again, just letting you guys know that we are now up to 1,066 member on the revival. That means that we will be sending letters to some different networks soon (I’m thinking maybe in August) so please join the revival and take part in trying to bring back such a great show.

You don’t have to pay or anything. Just type your email address were it says down the right hand side of the site’s home page. Plus, you don’t even have to write your own letter to mail in, seeing as how there is already one made up that will be sent to you via email once it’s time for the mass mailing. Though, I do encourage you to write your own to send in as well as the pre-made letter, just to show extra enthusiasm.

Every person can help to show these networks that we really do love this show and that it’s still popular. Please help the revival.

ReBoot is coming back

Early CG TV show gets “ReBoot”

Mon Jul 23, 2:52 AM ET

“ReBoot,” one of the earliest computer-animated episodic TV series, will be redeveloped as a trilogy of feature-length films by Rainmaker Animation.

Originally produced in 1994, the series centered on life within a computer, where good forces fought invading viruses and videogames were viewed from within.

“ReBoot” was created by MainFrame Entertainment, which was acquired by and renamed Rainmaker in 2006. The show aired for several seasons on ABC, YTV and Cartoon Network.

“The idea is to relaunch the brand in a new way,” said Rainmaker Animation executive vice president Paul Gertz, who will oversee the project.

To do this, Rainmaker has entered into a strategic alliance with Zeros 2 Heroes, a Web site set to launch Monday (July 23) to provide a social network for comic book fans.

Five undiscovered writers chosen by Rainmaker were selected to work with the animation studio’s production teams to prepare a pitch for the new “ReBoot” story line. These will be posted on the Zeros 2 Heroes site Thursday (July 26), the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con International. Those who visit the site will be able to work with each production team to help refine the ideas for “ReBoot” and later vote and select a favorite pitch. The brainstorming environment is what the site calls “Think Ups.”

A Web-based comic, based on the selected story, will be published this year. Production on the features will commence at that time.

“‘ReBoot’s’ legions of fans have been incredibly loyal and continue to keep the property alive on dozens of fan sites,” Gertz said. “We’re very enthusiastic about how we’re reconceiving this classic series by creating an innovative way for those fans — who were kids when the series started — to use new technology to help guide us.”

Zeros 2 Heroes president Matt Toner sees the Internet as a democratizing medium. “It takes away gatekeepers,” he said. “We want to connect the fans with the producers … and let them determine what the next hits will be. When it comes to long-standing genre entertainment properties, the fans are the real experts.”

jester here with more info… again haha

well starting on july 26, fans can put in their own input as to what they want to see and where the reboot series should go. if enough fans ask for the same thing: aka - closure to the series (not a new story), original cast (not new voices), original characters (new characters might be alright but they can’t take over the movie from the original characters), same looking animation (it’s fine, or even better, if they were to increase the detail and just make everything look sharper and more interesting… but they have to keep the same looking animation from the series that we all grew up loving), and finally they need to bring back at least gavin or ian or both (they had the original ideas for the show, they knew where the direction where they wanted the show to go, and they should be back to make sure everything turns out to be like “ReBoot”).

go to this site http://alpha.zeros2heroes.com/ and start talking on july 26 to get what you want.

Well now… Who would have thought. This was pretty good back in the day… 90’s anyway. I only remember some big battle where flying things got blown up, and the main characters were funky coloured characters (of which one died in the battle.. or at least i think), but I’m just glad to see it wasn’t just my imagination. Maybe I’ll see it repeated some day.

Wow, this was my favorite show when I was a kid. I remember watching it on Toonami everyday. I know part of it is that the shows are for kids, but I really think the shows on CN have gotten a lot worse than what I had.

I like the whole idea the show came up with. I mean according to reboot we (the users) are the bad guys and every time we win a game we destroy part of there civilization. But then there is the part where we can save there civilization from total destruction as if it were no problem. To make things better it makes it seemes as if this world full of A.I. is invisable to us (the user)
